There are several models of the system, and there are several sources regarding how to do the mod with various results. Here is a list of some of them. Nevertheless the process is basically the same, the RGB lines need to be taken from the video encoder chip, amplified and then routed to an RGB connector.

The PC Engine, or TurboGrafx-16 in America, is a game console developed by NEC.

Models

NEC released a huge number of different models of the hardware over its lifespan. The basic PC Engine console can be expanded to use a CD-ROM unit, and NEC also launched different revisions of the console with CD hardware integrated.

Models tested

RGB Modded Supergrafx and Super CD-ROM2

XRGB-2 Specific settings

insert data

XRGB-3 Specific settings

When using an XRGB-3 with an RGB modded console, there is usually some distortion present on the top few rows of pixels. To correct or at least reduce this problem, AFC needs to be set to manual with a value of 4 to 6.

XRGB-Mini Specific settings

For RGB modded PC Engines, depending on the model of PC Engine and the RGB modification done, you may need to adjust the sync level setting or use an external sync cleaner. The consoles aspect ratio may be a little squashed by default, so applying some horizontal zoom may be necessary.

OSSC Specific settings

If you experience screen blanking when using your PC Engine hardware with the OSSC, try setting the analogue sync LPF to 2.5Mhz.

Using line triple mode is highly recommended if your display supports it, line double mode may squash the PC Engine's aspect ratio slightly.

Super SD System 3

The first generation Super SD System 3 devices require specific settings to work with the OSSC. Use the settings below in order to use the unit together with your OSSC.

Sync options -> Analogue Sync Vth to 101mV
Sync options -> Vsync Threshold to 11.84

TerraOnion have promised to exchange these early faulty units so hopefully this won't be an issue in the future.
