The sync signal can be of several types, and include more information than needed such as with a composite sync signal. Many devices present issues when fed this kind of sync, and a sync cleaner is placed in the chain in order to feed a pure sync signal.

There are commercial options available in the market, as well as very affordable and simple home built ones. Most are based on the LM1881 chip.

For the XRGB Mini, there are specially designed sync cleaners that replace the standard RGB IN adaptor that comes bundled with the unit.
